New guidance from AASA, FutureEd, Healthy Schools Campaign and Kaiser Permanente highlights how COVID relief funds can be used to support student and staff health. In addition to highlighting how school districts can use COVID-19 relief money for capacity building and infrastructure, the guidance details how these federal funds can be used to access additional funding streams, such as Medicaid, to ensure the efforts initiated with COVID relief aid are sustained.

Nearly half of American students with learning barriers cited increasing amounts of stress, depression and anxiety as the leading obstacle in the 2020-21 school year. At the same time, students say their access to a trusted adult to discuss that stress decreased, according to a new national survey.

One of the most notable consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic has been the widespread school closures that sent millions of students home from the classroom and into remote learning. Researchers have suggested that this abrupt move to online schooling will be followed by widespread declines in academic performance, especially among students from lower-income families.

Want to see a temperamental tween or teen act happier? The formula is simple, a large international study suggests. Those who were less active physically were more likely feel irritable or nervous, and to report trouble sleeping, headaches, stomachaches and backaches, the research found. The findings suggested physical activity promotes mental well-being even when kids also spend lots of time glued to their screens.
