Online Physical Education Graduate Program

The M.A.Ed. in Physical Education Master Teacher is an online graduate program designed to help K-12 physical education teachers enhance their instructional effectiveness. Students can choose from emphases in pedagogy or special populations to help enhance their physical fitness classroom.

In June, SHAPE America made several changes to the Teacher of the Year application process, which include new award criteria and a new online application. If you plan to apply for a SHAPE America District Teacher of the Year award, please visit the Teacher of the Year Awards web page to make sure you have the most up-to-date information. The application deadline is September 15.

Previous research reported the effectiveness of a curriculum-based self-care intervention for students administered in the context of a course on behavior change. This study published in the July/August issue of the American Journal of Health Education evaluated the effectiveness of the self-care intervention for learners in a publicly available massive open online course (MOOC), who completed the course during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Children's mental health and well-being are tied to their achievement in school. For elementary and middle school students, the classroom can be an overwhelming environment that may cause social pressure and performance anxiety. Parents and other caregivers, not just educators, can support students' learning by fostering nurturing environments where children can grow their confidence and self-esteem in academics.

A new national study finds that children in the United States with greater screen time usage at ages 9-10 are more likely to gain weight one year later. The study, publishing in Pediatric Obesity, found that each additional hour spent on virtually all forms of screen time was associated with a higher body mass index (BMI) one year later.

Enhanced physical education classes in school boost children's brainpower and academic performance, particularly in math, according to an analysis published Tuesday. Students at schools in which physical education classes were taught by dedicated teachers and included intellectually challenging activities had evidence of improved cognitive and academic performance based on standardized test scores and grades, among other measures.
