SHAPE America recently collaborated with USA Lacrosse on their updated, comprehensive co-ed lacrosse curriculum, which is available for the following grade bands: K-2, 3-5, 6-8 and 9-12. The standards-based curriculum provides physical educators with the resources necessary to understand the game of lacrosse while having the freedom to be creative in tailoring lessons to meet the needs of the learners they are serving. Volunteer Leader Needed for Curriculum & Instruction SIG
SHAPE America’s Curriculum & Instruction Special Interest Group (SIG) seeks a practitioner to serve as co-chair elect. This individual would work alongside the leadership team in connecting with SIG award recipients, selecting speakers for the annual business meeting, developing a practitioner-based award, and sharing ideas about blending work between researchers and practitioners in health and physical education. Presence at #SHAPEseattle in 2023 is encouraged but not required. Reclaiming Recess: Playtime Impacts Class Time

Today, the average recess is 27 minutes, if kids get a recess at all. Georgia is the latest state to sign a law that makes recess a requirement in public elementary schools. It joins five other states who already require scheduled playtime during school hours. Seven other states require some sort of physical activity at the elementary school level. Experts say this trend will not only help a child’s physical wellbeing, but their mental health as well. READ MORE

Teens View Drugs and Alcohol as Less Risky, but Use Is Down
