The document offers guidance for preparing future professionals in these disciplines regardless of the structure of the program or the degree level offered by the program. Sometimes the holidays also include stress and anxiety, which affect people for different reasons. If you are a teacher, coach, counselor, or parent of teens, you know they are not immune to stress at this time of year. The pressure to succeed, fit in among peers, or process life changes are just a few factors that can make an otherwise happy season feel overwhelming.

On Saturday, January 28, SHAPE America’s Emerging Leaders Innovation Team (ELIT) will host an online professional development event covering a variety of important health and physical education topics. Registration is now open!

News Around the Nation

MIT News

MIT is one of the last prestigious institutions in the United States to hold onto a physical education requirement for undergraduates, probably due to its celebrated tradition of experiential learning. Students enrolled in Embodied Education receive both a humanities, arts, and social sciences credit, and two physical education and wellness points. The premise of the class is that students think with both their brains and their bodies, and to explore how connecting academic subjects with movement could lead to stronger learning outcomes in K-12 education systems.

Sports Innovation Journal

Sport and related programs regularly implement engaged learning to better prepare students for the workforce. The intention of this special issue is to support academic discourse regarding engaged learning practices in sport, tourism, and live entertainment education to encourage innovative practices, academic investigation, and conversations around both theory and practice to better serve all students and move these fields forward.

Forbes

According to a recent 60 Minutes episode, over 1,200 families are now pursuing lawsuits against Meta, Snapchat, TikTok, YouTube, and other social media companies. These lawsuits are alleging that such companies’ products and services have had a variety of negative mental health effects on the families’ children. These lawsuits are coming after mental health experts have issued repeated warnings since the mid-2010s about what social media can do to that thing that sits atop your body. Meaning, your head.

Sentinel

Each year for the past four years, the Cherry Creek School District has allowed each school in the district to apply for $1,000 wellness grants, which can be used for anything related to student or teacher health and wellness. This year, Pine Ridge Elementary School nurse Jessica Puga decided to create a sensory hallway along part of the wall leading into the library.
