Greetings!

 

It is my honor to write this opening message to the inaugural edition of Research in Motion, the official newsletter of the . Research conducted by our members is an engine that drives best practice and informs our field. The Research Council is proud to support this mission by disseminating, supporting, and celebrating high quality research.

 

This newsletter will enable us to communicate news regarding published research, upcoming events, Research Fellows, scholar awards, research activities at the SHAPE America National Convention & Expo, and more.

 

I would like to thank SHAPE America’s leadership team and staff for their support in launching this newsletter as well as all the members of the Research Council for their contributions. Special thanks goes to Paul Rukavina, past chair, who has been the driving force behind this initiative.

We’re thrilled to welcome the newest members of the Research Council ():

New Motor Behavior Special Interest Group

We are pleased to announce the formation of the new Motor Behavior Special Interest Group (SIG), which will be co-chaired by Ali Brian, Nancy Getchell, and Paul Rukavina. The Research Council also supports the .

 

Research Proposals for #SHAPEseattle
We were excited to have received 233 research abstracts and two symposia for review for the in Seattle. Presenters should be informed of acceptance by the end of October.

 

2022 Research Grant Recipient

We are pleased to announce the recent recipient of the 2022 : Daryl Campbell-Pierre, Texas Christian University (advised by Deborah J. Rhea). The title of Daryl’s project is “The Effects of Multiple Recesses Daily on Children’s Motor Coordination.”

 

Scholar Lecture Named for Daryl Siedentop

The Research Council is currently reviewing nominations for several and , including the Daryl Siedentop Scholar Lecture. Previously called the SHAPE America Scholar Lecture, it was renamed to celebrate the legacy of Dr. Siedentop, who passed away in July 2021.

Jane E. Clark, Ph.D.

Professor Emeritus
University of Maryland

Discipline Area: Motor Development

 

Dr. Clark’s research focuses on the development of motor skills in infants and young children, with a special focus on those with movement difficulties.
