This study from the June issue of Research Quarterly for Exercise and Sport (RQES) examined the effect of CAB at different times within the school day on on-task behavior and PA levels for students in grades 1-3.

Through online education, access to learning opportunities in health sciences is growing; however, online education can lead to feelings of isolation and disconnection from the educational community. This study from the July/August issue of the American Journal of Health Education (AJHE) evaluated the online learning community at Morehouse School of Medicine, which was established through the core foundation of the five Cs (communication, commitment, collaboration, content, and connection) to create community support for underrepresented populations.

This documentary from Nebraska Public Media Foundation is a portrait of Title IX advocate JoAnne Owens-Nauslar, Ed.D. — athlete, teacher, coach, fitness expert, and SHAPE America member — who shares her perspective of competing on and off the field before, during, and in the 50 years since Title IX became law.

For more than a half century, Kris Fritz has motivated students in fun and effective ways to stay fit and healthy. And she’s done much for the profession by mentoring and inspiring teachers and others who lead efforts to educate and advocate about the benefits of an active lifestyle.

In this guest column from the spring issue of Momentum magazine, health and physical educator Rachel Lindman reflects on the impact of using social media in her professional life and why she’s stopped trying to “keep up with the Joneses.”

News Around the Nation

Inside Higher Ed

As higher education practitioners grapple with the student mental health crisis on their campuses, programs for student athletes have grown with hopes of normalizing conversations around mental well-being among teams. This spring, Widener University opened a room dedicated to relaxation and recharging in its athletics facility, establishing a place for student athletes to discuss and maintain mental health and wellness.

American Journal of Preventive Medicine

In September 2022, the White House released the National Strategy on Hunger, Nutrition and Health. Of the five pillars of the strategy, four are focused on improving food access and nutrition, while one pillar is devoted to “supporting physical activity for all.” The inclusion of support for promoting physical activity in the National Strategy is a timely and welcome addition, and highlights the strong interaction between dietary behavior, physical activity, and health.

PsyPost

A new study published in Applied Psychological Health sought to investigate the reciprocal interplay between physical activity and health-related quality of life in children and adolescents. The research revealed that the more active the children were, the more likely they were to engage in physical activity, and the more physically active participants were, the more likely they were to have higher health-related quality of life.

Edutopia

When I first started teaching, I found myself in a lively middle school classroom unsure of how to connect with my students. Meaningful relationships with my students blossomed when I began to understand their perspectives and empathize with their lives outside of the classroom. Some simple acts allowed me to establish a nurturing classroom environment that created a community of mutual respect and care.
