Preschoolers worldwide exhibit low levels of motor skill competence. Additionally, evidence regarding sex differences in fundamental motor skill competence among preschoolers remains inconsistent. However, many have highlighted sex as an important correlate of motor competence. Identifying and addressing these sex differences is crucial for promoting equitable improvement in children’s fundamental motor skills, regardless of sex. Making School Fun the Key for Pennsylvania Teacher of the Year Finalist

SHAPE America member Bo Shappell has been named one of this year’s 12 finalists for the prestigious Pennsylvania Teacher of the Year Award.
For the first 14 years of his career he worked at Daniel Boone Middle School.
Four years ago he moved to Daniel Boone High School.
At both stops, Shappell has tried to turn his classes into something students can truly enjoy and learn from.
He has even rewritten the district’s curriculum to make that possible.

USDA Launches Child Summer Nutrition Programs

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has launched a group of summer nutrition services for children known as the SUN Programs as part of an effort to combat food insecurity and malnutrition among students when they are typically out of school.
The SUN Programs — “SUN” being short for “summer nutrition” — include SUN Bucks, which provides $120 per eligible school-aged child in total for the purchase of groceries during the summer months.
The initiative also includes SUN Meals.
