JOPERD and Strategies are seeking candidates to serve on their editorial boards. Candidates must be a SHAPE America member, have prior experience as a reviewer and/or writer for the journal, and not be currently serving on the editorial board of another publication or on a SHAPE America committee during the three-year term. .

 

The SHAPE America Research Council is seeking a dedicated graduate student to serve as a student-elect. The Research Council supports and contributes to research programming at the SHAPE America National Convention & Expo and publishes the Research in Motion newsletter and UnLock Research articles. Apply by February 14.

 

School PTAs/PTOs and other local school-based parent/caregiver organizations are invited to apply for a $10,000 mini grant to provide resources on the topics of mental, social, and sexual health. From juggling multiple responsibilities to meeting high expectations, burnout has become a significant challenge in schools. Social-emotional learning (SEL) offers a way to combat this issue, providing tools to build resilience, foster connection, and prioritize well-being.

 

Edutopia

Educational leaders often grapple with the challenge of distinguishing between standards and curriculum and how to prepare teacher teams to design effective learning experiences for students. While standards set the expectations for what students should know and be able to do, they don’t provide a road map for how to achieve those outcomes.

Dietary recommendations for kids are pretty clear about what should be eaten and avoided — choosing fresh fruits and vegetables, for example, over ultra-processed foods containing lots of salt or sugar. Less clear have been specific guidance over beverages, until now: New recommendations urge that kids and teens should focus on pure hydration, and stay completely away from drinks containing caffeine, sugar, or sugar substitutes.
