After leading my first bike bus on Bike to School Day in 2022, I was left wondering about other opportunities to create safe and joyful child-friendly streets. The school where I work has implemented several street experiments that repurpose streets and parking spaces that have given students safe, joyful opportunities to engage in playful learning outside.

 

Scientific Reports

This study investigates the effects of the sport education model on physical literacy and its subsequent impact on daily physical activity levels among university students. Through mediation analysis, this study seeks to uncover the role of situational motivation in these effects. The participants in this study consist of 188 university students who were exposed to an eight-class, 10-lesson season as part of their physical education curriculum.

Kaitlyn May and Anastasia Elder wrote compelling research about how distraction deteriorates learning: “Media multitasking interferes with attention and working memory, negatively affecting GPA, test performance, recall, reading comprehension, note-taking, self-regulation, and efficiency.” As Jonathan Haidt, author of The Anxious Generation, says, “Even when students don’t check their phones, the mere presence of a phone damages their ability to think.”
