The authors previously did a study with a curriculum-based health improvement intervention and improved the mental health of health science graduate students. Due to this success, they decided to reach a larger population through the use of a massive open online course (MOOC) during the COVID-19 pandemic. U.S. Adolescents Are Getting Less Sex Education Now Than 25 Years Ago

Sex ed — it's been a staple of public education for decades, but new research, published recently in the Journal of Adolescent Health, shows that only half of American teens are getting instruction that meets minimum standards. "The findings show that most adolescents are not receiving sex education that will enable them to manage their sexual lives," said study author Leslie Kantor, chair of the Department of Urban-Global Public Health at Rutgers School of Public Health. Skyline Unified Sports Providing Unique Opportunity

Skyline High School’s new Unified Sports team will allow students with intellectual disabilities to compete alongside and in front of their peers. Unified Sports is a program that is a part of the Special Olympics that focuses on social inclusion. This is done by joining those with intellectual disabilities and those without on the same team. How PE Teachers Are Tackling ‘Physical Learning Loss’

Amanda Amtmanis, an elementary physical education instructor in Middletown, CT, handed out cards with QR codes to a class of third graders, and told them to start running. The kids sprinted off around the baseball field, but by the end of the first lap, a fifth of a mile, many were winded and walking. Amtmanis’ “mileage club,” which tracks students’ running, both in and out of school, is an example of how PE teachers around the country are trying to get kids back in shape as they confront what might be called “physical learning loss.” Read more of this article, which features many SHAPE America members.
